About

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden provides a rare glimpse of California as it once existed. Seventy-eight acres and more than 5 miles of paths meander through an unrivaled collection of California flora and offer panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands. Eight different sections represent various plant communities throughout California, including redwood forests, oak and canyon woodlands, meadows and deserts. Our mission is to conserve native plants and habitats for the health and well-being of people and our planet via our living collection, education, outreach, conservation and research. Our Department of Conservation & Research supports more than 30 staff who strive to understand, protect, conserve and restore native plants, lichens and ecological communities from the level of genes to ecosystems.
