Description:

Erigeron foliosus var. blochmaniae is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family known by the common names Blochman's erigeron and Blochman's leafy daisy. It is a perennial daisy growing from a stout woody caudex or rhizome and reaching heights of 40 to 80 centimeters. Its stem is lined with evenly spaced narrow straight leaves, each one to three centimeters long. Atop each hairy stem is an flower cluster, with flower heads each just over a centimeter wide bearing  white to pink or lavender ray florets and a center of golden yellow or greenish disc florets.  Blooming period is July through October. Erigeron foliosus var. blochmaniae lives in sand dunes and coastal scrub habitats.

Distribution:

Erigeron foliosus var. blochmaniae is endemic to California, where approximately 23 specimens can be found on the coastline of San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties. [CNPS]

Based on an September 2020 extract of the California Plant Rescue Database, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden holds 1 accessions of Erigeron blochmaniae in orthodox seed collection. There are as many as 2000 seeds of this species in their collection - although some may have been used for curation testing or sent to back up.
