This species is known only from South Kona on the island of Hawaii. Only 12 plants are known to remain. The areas where this species has been found have been extensively altered by agriculture. Rats are also known to feed on Hawaiian Pritchardia fruits. Feral pigs and alien plants also threaten the species and its habitat.

Ten individuals are known from a forest partially cleared for pasture in Hoomau. Two other individuals are found singly at the edge of a macadamia nut farm and in an area owned by a development company
