In January of 2011, Yesson et. al deposited the following sequence in Genbank. Cylindropuntia munzii voucher Barcenas 1899 (QMEX) 18S ribosomal RNA gene, partial sequence; internal transcribed spacer 1 and 5.8S ribosomal RNA gene, complete sequence; and internal transcribed spacer 2, partial sequence.

Based on an September 2020 extract of the California Plant Rescue Database, California Botanic Garden holds 4 accessions of Cylindropuntia munzii in orthodox seed collection. There are as many as 22345 seeds of this species in their collection - although some may have been used for curation testing or sent to back up.
