Description:

Aristida chaseae is a rare species of perennial grass with densely tufted, wide-spreading culms which may reach from 50 to 60 cm to length. The leaf blades are involute, 2 to 3 mm wide and 10 to 15 mm long. The panicles are narrow and may be from 10 to 15 cm in length. The giumes are equal, 10 to 13 mm long and aciminate or awn-tipped. (Fish and Wildlife Srvc. Federal Register 1993.)

Habitat:

Aristida chaseae can be found in coastal grassland areas of Puerto Rico, favoring dry, stoney, sandy soil.

Distribution:

A. chaseae is endemic to Puerto Rico, where it is known from two locations in the Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge and the Sierra Bermeja.  (Fish and Wildlife Srvc. Federal Register 1993.)
