Description:

Polystichum calderonense is a rare species of fern known by the common name Monte Guilarte hollyfern. Polystichum are terrestrial or rock-dwelling ferns of warm-temperate and montane tropical regions. Adult specimens are medium in size and reach 3-6 feet high. They have stout, slowly-creeping rootstocks that form a crown, with a vase-like ring of evergreen fronds. The primary reasons for endangerment include habitat loss, fires, poor forestry management practices
