Description:

The twocleft stenogyne is an endemic perennial herb that is found at high altitudes in the wet montane ecosystems of eastern Molokai. Its unique flowers range from pale yellow to green to pale brown and features two clefts, as its common name describes.

This member of the mint family grows on steep ridges in montane mesic to wet forests.

Distribution:

This species is historically known from occurances throughout Moloka`i, but it can now be found on the eastern volcanic range at 400-1,200 ft elevation.

The biggest threat against this non-aromatic mint is the abundance of grazing ungulates in the area, both feral and domesticated.

Five individuals are known from three populations. It is estimated that there are less than ten individuals on East Molokai.
