Description:

This perennial climbing subshrub is a nonaromatic member of the mint family, endemic to the Kaholuamanu and Ka'aha on the Hawaiian island, Kauai. It has dainty pinkish-white flowers, arranged upon several unbranched, leafy stalks.

Habitat:

Typical habitats of P. waimeae are shallow to deep, well-drained soils in clearings along the banks of streams found in diverse montane mesic to wet forests.

Distribution:

Today, there is only one known individual found in the Waimea Canyon of Kauai, in an Acacia koa-Metrosideros forest. Other than that one representative, other individuals have not been seen in about 40 years.

The Waimea Canyon population consists of one plant. The Halemanu population has not been observed for 40 years.
