Description:

Mann's phyllostegia is an endemic member of the mint family, but uniquely non-aromatic and more hairy. As a climbing vine, its numerous hairy branches climb upon nearby vegetation and produces clusters of white flowers. At maturity, it bears greenish-black nutlets.

Where is Mann's Phyllostegia (Phyllostegia mannii) located in the wild?

Habitat:

P. mannii tends to grow in shaded sites that are sometimes foggy as well as windswept, wet, open forests.

Distribution:

Today, it is only found on Molokai within the Hanalilolilo area of the Kamakou Preserve, on privately owned land. It is also endemic to Maui, but has not been observed since the early 1900's.

Threats in its habitat include feral goats and pigs, occasional landslides, and invasive plant species, like daisy fleabane, thimbleberry, and Japanese mat rush.
