Description:

This perennial woody shrub has showy magenta flowers, blooming in May and June. Invasive species like molasses grass and Christmas berry threaten its survival, while rats predate on its immature fruits, preventing it from reproducing.

Habitat:

Typical habitats of this Lobelia species feature steep, sparsely vegetated cliffs in mesic shrubland at elevations of about 950 feet.

Distribution:

Thought to be extinct in the wild, the only population observed in its native habitat was seen in 2007 in the Ko'olau Mountains of Oahu, Hawaii.
