Mapulehu Valley Cyanea (Cyanea profuga)

Historically, this species was found in Mapulehu Valley and along Pelekunu Trail, and has not been seen in those locations since the early 1900s. Description:

The Mapulehu Valley cyanea is a endangered shrub that can grow up to around 2 meters tall and has white flowers that mature into orange berries. Reasons for its endangered status include habitat degradation from feral animal species and introduced species in the area.

Where is Mapulehu Valley Cyanea (Cyanea profuga) located in the wild?

Habitat:

This Cyanea species prefers woodland forest habitats, typically of mesic or montane ecosystems.

Distribution:

Only 6 individuals can be found in its native habitat, the Wai`awa Gulch of east Moloka`i.
