The Atlanta Botanical Garden’s conservation field team visited populations of Forestiera godfreyi at Torreya State Park, Florida Caverns State Park, and Lake Miccosukee in March and April 2024 to find fruits for seedbanking. An Alachua County Environmental Specialist visited a population at Barr Hammock in March as well to assist with finding seeds. All of the populations visited except the Lake Miccosukee population were vegetative. These populations consisted of between 2-100 individuals. At Lake Miccosukee, more than 100 vegetative individuals were observed in a mixed hardwood bottomland. A single tree was fruiting, with approximately 50 fruits. Five fruits were collected and sent to ABG’s Conservation Seed Bank for ex-situ safeguarding.
