Description:

This endemic shrub, that is lumped with similar Cyrtandra species under the common name "ha`iwale", has whorled, somewhat hairy leaves and white, solitary, funnel-shaped flowers. The flowers produce berry fruits of various shades of green.

Habitat:

One can find these shrubs in wet woodland forests at high elevations. They typically grow on ridges that are not easily accessible.

Distribution:

C. hematos can be found in east Molokai, specifically in the areas of the Oloku`i Plateau, Kawela, and the Kahuoahu Valley.
