Description:

This species is a shrub that grows from 1.5 to 2 meters tall. There is nearly no information in the literature about this species, other than the fact that it grows on serpentine barrens in Puerto Rico at altitudes of 300 to 400 meters. (New York Botanical Garden 2002)

Endemic to Puerto Rico. Known only from the wet montane regions of Monte del Estado, Maricao, in forest on serpentine soil. Characterized by Woodbury (1975) as endangered with limited distribution, and by Figueroa Colon (1996) as rare and endangered in the most recent survey of the plant's status.
