In June 2023, Atlanta Botanical Garden (ABG) staff visited a boat launch in Walton County Florida on three occasions, in search of Variable Leaf Plantain (Arnoglossum diversifolium). These three separate site assessments were completed by Florida-based team member Ashton Holliday-Goulart, Field Technician. During these trips she found a healthy population, partitioned off the site from further destruction, recorded locations and plant reproductive status, and bagged fruit for future seed collection. In total, 1,249 separate fruits at 60 plants across a total of 668 reproductive individuals were bagged. This population will be revisited for seed collection at the end of August or beginning of September, and collected seeds will be safeguarded at the ABG Conservation Seedbank and the National Laboratory for Genetic Resource Preservation.
