Description:

As its common name implies, Brodiaea kinkiensis is a perennial brodiaea that is endemic to the San Clemente Island off the coast of Los Angeles. In its blooming season (May – June), its blooms are erect and tube-like. Starting from its white perianth tube and brown/purple midribs, the petals of the San Clemente Island Brodiaea gradually darken into a deep violet shade. On San Clemente Island, B. kinkiensis favors clay flats in valley grasslands at elevations past 1000ft. Though its conservation status is currently Imperiled, they are progressively recovering their populations since the removal of their primary threat – grazing feral livestock that freely roamed the island.
