Description:

A. edmundsii is a perennial shrub with light yellow-green leaves and pale pink urn-shaped flowers that tend to grow in dense clusters (Parker 2017). Its a fast-growing low shrub that can spread more than eight feet in ground coverage. The fruits it produces are small reddish-brown drupes that were used by indigenous peoples to make cider (The Wildflower Center 2008).

Habitat:

Chaparral covered cliffs are this shrub's preferred habitat (NatureServe 2016), especially in coastal areas (The Wildflower Center 2008). It can tolerate sand and clay substrates, but prefers dry soil, making it a drought tolerant plant. The shrub grows best in partial shade to full sun, as long as it receives a moderate amount of water (Las Pilitas Nursery 2014).

Distribution:

This shrub is endemic to Monterey County in California, with occurrences at Pfieffer Point, Soberanes Point, Point Sur, and Big Sur (CNPS 2017). It can grow at elevations up to 800 feet (The Wildflower Center 2008).
