In the January 2007 issue of Madroño, authors Colwell, Sheviak and P. Moore, describe Platanthera yosemitensis as a new species from Mariposa County, California. They found it to be a wet meadow endemic located in Yosemite National Park between the main stem and South Fork of the Merced River. They describe it as 'distinct from Platanthera stricta Lindl., P. sparsiflora (S. Wats.) (Schlecter), and P. purpurascens (Rydb.) (Sheviak & W. F. Jennings) based on vegetative habit, floral morphology, color, and fragrance and pollination mechanics.'
