As outlined in the CPC and USFS Rare Plant Seed Banking Agreement, Sheila Murray from The Arboretum at Flagstaff made conservation seed collections from two populations of Potentilla sanguinea in Coconino National Forest on September 10, 2019. The larger population was located at the Junction of Mt. Dell Road and Highway 89A and consisted of 500 individuals, half of which were reproductively mature. From this population, Sheila collected an estimated 2300 seeds from 50 maternal plants. The smaller population was located near the old Sandy’s Canyon trailhead and consisted of only 30 individuals total, but fortunately 29 of these plants were reproductively mature. Sheila collected an estimated 1195 seeds from the 29 available maternal plants. Seed was divided and banked between The Arboretum at Flagstaff and the National Laboratory for Genetic Resources Preservation in Fort Collins, CO.
