Another successful seed collection! In September 2022, Coreopsis bakeri seeds from fifty-eight maternal lines were collected from a rare limestone glade habitat in Jackson County, FL and will be added to conservation seed banks at Atlanta Botanical Garden and the National Laboratory for Genetic Resource Preservation. This effort was led by our Florida-based team members Cami Adams, Field Technician, and Liz Miller, Field Biologist.

Coreopsis bakeri, Baker’s tickseed, is found only in these unique limestone glades in Jackson County and generally flower from March to April. This species is under threat due to the small range of viable habitat and potential competition with another Coreopsis species that can occur in the area, C. lanceolata. During the initial site assessment in April 2022, our team counted over 675 flowering and fruiting individuals.
