Description:

Also known as the Southern Tarweed, Centromadia parryi ssp. australis is an annual herb that is primarily found in Orange and Los Angeles counties. In these areas, it can be found in freshwater wetlands and seasonally moist grasslands including the Bolsa Chica Marsh in Orange County. The small yellow, ray florets that this species produces can be seen from May through November and can grow up to 70cm tall.

Habitat:

C. p. ssp. australis prefers wetland and grassland habitats that have seasonally moist periods and high salinity soil. This species thrives at sea level but can be seen at elevations as high as 200ft. 

Distribution:

C. p. ssp. australis is primarily grown in Orange and Los Angeles counties but can found as north as Santa Barbara and as south as San Diego.
