Description:

At maybe one individual representing this species in the wild, this endemic member of the carnation family is critically imperiled. It produces a cleistogamous, or completely closed, flower that opens only slightly to release its pollen to its stigmas. Last seen in 2012, its one representative was found in the woodland areas of the Kohala Mountains on the island of Hawai'i.
