Description:

P. halophilum is a small shrub with gray brown stems apically ending in clusters of leaves. The leaves are distinct, showing as shiny dark green on top and metallic silver to gold on its underside. The undersides of the leaves are also tomentose, or covered in densely matted hairs (DLNR 2013). Its minute flowers are organized in clusters, white to cream in color. These flowers mature into capsule fruits with black seeds (Wagner 2005).

Habitat:

This shrub prefers woodland forest habitats (NatureServe 2016).

Distribution:

Endemic to the island of Moloka`i, this rare shrub is found in the coastal areas of Okala, namely near Kalaupapa and the Kuka`iwa`a peninsula (DLNR 2013).
