Ecological threats mainly include direct competition with introduced plant species such as sawtooth blackberry shrubs, wild passionfruit vines, wild guava trees, common sage shrubs, and silky oak trees. Additional threats include habitat degradation from non-native goats and pigs as well as unmanaged fires, heavy droughts and infestations of twig borers.
