Description:

Covered in a shaggy coat of rust-colored trichomes, the cliffside cyrtandra is a member of the African violet family that produces white flowers in a cyme inflorescence.

Where is Cliffside Cyrtandra (Cyrtandra paliku) located in the wild?

Habitat:

This Cyrtandra species is found in lowland wet forests, dominated by native Metrosideros species. It can grow on vertical cliffs and steep slopes.

Distribution:

Only published in 2001, the recently-discovered species is endemic to the Kekoiki Summit and Mount Namahana in the Makaleha Mountain Range of Kauai.
