Description:

The purple-leaved rollandia is a member of that bellflower family, showing similar habit and flower morphology to other members of its genus. Its flowers and leaf undersides are dark magenta. It is estimated that there are about 18 individuals in its native range as of 2011.

Habitat:

This species is typically found in moist habitats of woodland forests. Gulches between peaks and cliffs serve as favorable environments for the purple-leaved rollandia.

Distribution:

In the wild, this Cyanea species was last observed in the Koolau Mountains of Oahu, specifically the Kaakua-Kaipapau and Punaluu-Kaluanui Ridge.
