Narrowly endemic to hot spring-influenced habitats in Napa County, California. 2 of the 3 known occurrences are extant; 1 is scattered over about 4 ha near a small, undeveloped hot spring; the other is located at an airport. The latter population is threatend by further development, airport maintenance, vehicle parking, and grass mowing. A convalescent community has been proposed for the undeveloped site, but zoning restrictions have so far prevented this. Most (about 70%) of the species' original habitat in the county has been destroyed by development and conversion to viticulture.

construction of the airport and further development could threaten the population at Calistoga Airport the population near Myrtledale Hot Springs has been bisected by an asphalt road, and the landowner has proposed to build a convalescent community
