The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden conservation team continued leveraging experience with the deltoid spurge complex in 2024 by collecting the Pineland sandmat ( or Pineland broomspurge). Unlike its lower growing cousins’, the Pineland deltoid spurge’s more upright growing habit makes bagging several branches of developing capsules much easier. For the collection site, we chose Navy Wells Environmentally Endangered Lands Program (EEL) preserve. The spurge was most prevalent in recently burned areas and along open edges. After four trips we were able to gather 286 seeds from 36 maternal lines.
