Currently known from a total of 18 populations; 12 of these are remaining native populations, and 6 are a result of experimental seedings. Six of the native populations occur around the city of Santa Cruz. The remaining six native populations occur around the city of Watsonville. The other six extant populations are a result of experimental seed transplants in Wildcat Regional Park in the east San Francisco Bay area
