Description:

This endemic herb produces small, white flowers and nutlets as fruit. It faces habitat degradation from feral pigs and fire.

Where is Kaala Phyllostegia (Phyllostegia kaalaensis) located in the wild?

Habitat:

P. kaalaensis grows on gulch slopes and bottoms, as well as vertical rock faces in mesic forests. It can be found at elevations of 300 to 800 meters. 

Distribution:

Found only in the Wai'anae Mountains of Oahu, there are only five subpopulations growing on state-owned land and private properties.
