Description:

Very little information is known about this species, although it appears to be relatively stable despite the fact that fewer than 2,000 plants remain in the wild. (Dudek & Associates Inc. 1999)

Occurs on exposed knolls in either shaded yellow pine woodland, on seasonally moist, fine loamy soils, chaparral on moist, sandy clay soils, or native grassland. (Dudek & Associates Inc. 1999)

Based on an September 2020 extract of the California Plant Rescue Database, California Botanic Garden holds 7 accessions of Calochortus palmeri var. munzii in orthodox seed collection. There are as many as 32720 seeds of this species in their collection - although some may have been used for curation testing or sent to back up.

Based on an August 2020 extract of the California Plant Rescue Database, California Botanic Garden has collected 7 seed accessions of Calochortus palmeri var. munzii from 5 plant occurrences listed in the California Natural Diversity Database. These collections together emcompass 805 maternal plants
