North American Orchid Conservation Center

CPC institution Code: NAOCC
About

North America is home to over 200 orchid species, and more than half are endangered or threatened somewhere in their native range. The Smithsonian's North American Orchid Conservation Center (NAOCC) is both a program based at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and a network of collaborating institutions throughout North America. NAOCC was established in 2011 through an initial alliance between the Smithsonian Institution and the United States Botanic Garden to assure the survival of all native orchids in the U.S. and Canada. We now have over 60 collaborators, from botanic gardens and university researchers, to land trusts and individual conservationists.
