The Best Practices and general literature (including CPC books) can be pretty overwhelming for a new operation trying to quickly start doing ex situ conservation work, or the garden may have very limited staff and/or infrastructure. Is it possible to summarize/create an essentials checklist? Does one exist already? It would be great to offer a succinct reference on how and where should a new group should start the work of ex situ conservation.

A great first step for anyone interested in CPC is the website. Go to saveplants.org to learn more. For info on applying for PI membership in the network, click on the PI tab.
