    Job Description:

    Do you have prior field work experience in natural resources and have an interest in plant conservation? Apply today to join our team as a Botanical Field Assistant where you’ll do field work, collecting samples and data for plant conservation research projects. We have multiple opportunities available!

     

    What you’ll be doing

    This is limited duration position has work expected to begin late-March and end by September 30, 2023. As a Botanical Field Assistant you will:

    Focus on botanical, ecological and experimental data collection at field-based project sites across Oregon
    Survey, monitor and collect rare and native plants
    Record field observations, methods and project progress, and will enter field collected data and perform basic analysis
    Working Conditions: work will occur outdoors in all types of weather and requires walking, standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods on steep or uneven terrain in remote areas. Work will require driving long distances and include overnight travel. Due to the nature of working outdoors, employees may occasionally be exposed to dust, fumes, chemicals, noise, and unpleasant variation in temperature. Work requires lifting and carrying heavy objects.

    What we’re looking for:

    Coursework in natural resources such as botany, plant physiology, natural resources or a related ecological discipline
    At least 1 prior season of field work in a natural resource related field
    Prior experience in botanical field work including plant surveying/monitoring, data collection and use of dichotomous keys
    Experience using GPS units to navigate in the field
    Knowledge of, or familiarity with GIS programs
    To qualify for the position, you must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire, have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
