I’m curious if others have insurance policies for their seed banks. Our herbarium collection has additional insurance so it seems like seed collections could as well. Does anyone have additional insurance for their seed collections? How do you apply value to your collections?
That’s a great question Kim. I don’t know of any that specifically insure them but I would expect that some do. Hopefully others can chime in.
As far as value, at CPC we have a policy of support seed collecting at $2500 for each seed lot accession when we have grants/funding to support these efforts. However, this is only a partial cost and staff time as well as resources to maintain the collections factor in over time.
