Nevada Rare Plant Conservation: Monitoring Prioritization, Seedbanking, and Growth

Recent research conducted through a partnership between the Nevada Division of Natural Heritage (NDNH), the University of Nevada, Reno, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service identified the most prevalent threats to rare species in Nevada, explored the correlation between threats predicted by geospatial data and threats observed on the ground, and used this information to prioritize monitoring for 128 of Nevada’s critically imperiled and imperiled rare plants. The Nevada Division of Natural Heritage (NDNH) is using this work to support an application for a new cooperative agreement between NDNH and the Bureau of Land Management which, if funded, will aim to comprehensively monitor and expand seedbanking for S1/G1 rare plants in Nevada and to grow staffing capacity within NDNH so that this work can be sustained over time.
