Collecting Herbarium Voucher Specimens from Wild Rare Plant Populations

Storyboard contributed by: Dr. Jennifer Ramp Neale, Denver Botanic Gardens

Herbarium vouchers serve as genetic evidence of a plant at a given location at a given time. When conducting plant monitoring, seed collection, or other conservation activities, herbarium vouchers should taken this action does not harm the plant population in order to provide reference material for later review. This video details the process for collecting taxonomically representative and rigorously documented herbarium vouchers from plant populations that can be stored long term in a natural history collection.
