Endemic to Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, West Maui, and Lanai. 10 occurrences are currently known, with additional historical ones documented. The actual rarity of the species is difficult to assess since this plant is an inconspicuous annual. Most likely there are many populations yet to be documented. Major threats to the survival of this species are habitat degradation caused by ungulates, competition with alien plants, fires, coastal development, and trampling by humans and ungulates.
