  • Seed Collection

The Arboretum at Flagstaff has made a conservation collection of seed for Rosa ertterae. This is part of the CPC project to seed bank species from the Region 3 Forest Service areas. This was our first time visiting this population in Oak Creek Canyon. The shrubs do seem to be in good condition, however there are numerous threats to this habitat due to the proximity of a popular Forest trail. Even though it is a maintained Forest trail, it is extremely popular and trampling off trail is frequent. Vast swaths of poison ivy and Himalayan blackberry are intermingled with the Rosa, which may deter trampling, but also may encourage it from eager berry-pickers.
