The Arboretum at Flagstaff has made a conservation collection of seed for Salvia dorrii ssp. mearnsii. This is part of the CPC project to seed bank species from the Region 3 Forest Service areas. The habitat is limestone soils in low elevations of central Arizona. This population is near a recently labeled Trail, and threats are primarily vehicular damage due to ATV's and trampling from target shooting recreation. The habitat is quite disturbed with numerous two-track roads and broken glass. Despite the drought, the population produced numerous seeds in 2025.
