Description:

Onosmodium decipiens, or deceptive marbleseed, is an extremely rare perennial in the Boraginaceae family. It grows upright, with 1-3 stems growing 1-3 feet tall and with a rosette of leaves at the base. The leaves are long, skinny ovals with no stalk. It produces tubular yellow flowers from April to June, and bright white seeds. Deceptive marbleseed is known from only a single county in Alabama. It can be found on calcareous glades and barrens or dolomite outcrops. It is listed as imperiled globally (G2 NatureServe rank) because of its rarity. (Keener et al. 2018, USDA and NRCS 2018, NatureServe 2018a, NatureServe 2018b)
