Endemic to Colorado, Penstemon retrorsus is known from 38 occurrences in Delta and Montrose Counties. Threats are low due to wide distribution and abundance of plants and low agricultural potential of shale badlands. (Peterson 1981). Recreational vehicle use does pose a minor threat, though.
