Known from only 3-6 populations in Franklin, Lawrence, and Colbert counties, Alabama. Woody plant succession is a threat, as this early colonizer requires periodic disturbance to maintain the open cedar glade habitat on which it depends. Urban and intensive agricultural development have modified or destroyed many of the cedar glades, but some agricultural activities may not be incompatible with this species' survival. Long term (~ 10 years) seed banking make this species resilient in unfavorable years.
