Description:

The Bottlebrush buckeye is a rare shrub native to the southeastern US. Unique among American buckeyes, it is distinguished by having edible seeds and narrow, columnar white inflorescences. Bottlebrush buckeye was first discovered in South Carolina by the famed naturalist William Bartram. Later identified definitively as a new species and named, the original population was then lost for almost two hundred years, only to be rediscovered in the 1980's.
