Description:

Debris milkvetch is a perennial plant that is a member of the Pea family. It flowers from late April to early June, producing vivid pink-purple flowers. Its pinnately compound or trifoliate leaves have narrowly linear leaflets. Its pods are erect to straight or slightly curved, laterally compressed, and sparsely strigose (Barneby 1984 and Welsh et al 1987).

Habitat:

Debris milkvetch grows in cobblestone bluffs, barren knolls, hilltops, an dgullied badlands, on shale, sandstone, or stony alluvial clays. Elevation 5200-7000 ft (Barneby 1964).

Distribution:

This species is found within the Uinta Basin in Duchesne and Uintah Counties, Utah, and Rio Blanco and Moffat Counties, Colorado (Spackman 1997).

There are 10,000 individuals in Colorado, distributed among 15 occurances in two counties. This data was collected in the 1970's and 80's (CNHP 1998). There are also 20-100 occurrences in Utah.

Colorado and Utah support the only occurrences for this species. There are at least 35 locations globally. However, specific occurrence information from Utah was not available and may increase the total number known.
