Job Title: Grants & Contracts Analyst (GCA) for Conservation & Research
FLSA Status: Full time, exempt
REPORTS TO: Conservation & Research Manager
LOCATION: Atlanta, GA, Remote considered
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is seeking candidates to fill the position of Conservation Grants & Contracts Analyst (GCA). This position reports directly to the Conservation & Research Manager, and is seated within the Southeastern Center for Conservation of the Conservation & Research Department. The GCA is primarily responsible for the financial and administrative management of federal grants, subawards, and associated contracts that support the research and instructional programs of the Southeastern Center for Conservation. This position provides specific direction to assure compliance with grant and contract administrative and financial obligations, and is responsible for the financial management of federal awards within the Conservation & Research department. The GCA must enjoy working on an active team that is mission-driven, results-driven, and scientifically focused.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, strong accounting experience, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a thorough understanding of federal and state guidelines supporting research and educational activities of the Southeastern Center for Conservation
- Demonstrates skill in financial analysis, planning, and administration with complex multi-million dollar budgets from multiple agencies including USDA-FS, US-FWS, NSF, EPA, and IMLS
- Responsible for pre-award and post-award functions that includes, but may not be limited to: proposal preparation, submission, budget development, account maintenance and oversight, billing/invoicing, reporting, compliance, and closeout
- Compiles and accurately summarize financial data in report format to higher level management for planning, projecting, and monitoring
- As needed, gathers information for, and applies, all areas of audit concepts and requirements to impart accurate information to an auditor
- Demonstrates organizational skills, exemplary stakeholder service skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and the ability to work with independence and minimal supervision
- Analyzes programic information, and contributes to complex grant applications.
- Works in close collaboration with the VP of Conservation & Research, Conservation & Research Manager in providing grant support to the Conservation team
- Consistently maintains the highest professional standards with respect to working as part of a professional team and in maintaining the security of confidential information.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree plus 3-5 years of experience in grants and contracts research management, financial and/or budget management required, preferably in a University/non-profit environment
- Experience in sponsor submission submission systems. Including but not limited to Workspace, Grant Solutions, USDA ezFed, and foundational systems.
- Experience controlling complex federal budgets, accounting and personnel functions including detailed budget preparation, grant and contract budgets, purchasing, ledger reconciliation and fiscal close
- Experience in analysis, forecasting and strategic planning to compile and analyze financial data and reports
- Experience working with federal and state agency contracts and grants policies and compliance guidelines
- Botanical/natural science or non-profit experience is strongly desired.
- Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload
- Working understanding of finance, contracts and grants, purchasing and equipment acquisition and material management, applicable personnel and payroll policies and procedures, research subcontracting concepts; and indirect cost principles
- High proficiency in computer skills (including: Google Suites, MS Office, Adobe Suites; virtual meeting platforms, and project tracking software such as Monday.com)
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative and dynamic team, with a record of proactively taking initiative as appropriate
- Acute attention to detail
- Notary certification is highly desirable.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- CRA, CFRA, CPRA certifications desired
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to spend long periods of time sitting at a computer/desk.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lb.
- MUST BE VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19. PROOF OF VACCINATION IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT
