This nine-month, full-time seasonal position provides critical support for conserving Oregon’s unique and threatened native plant species through innovative and science-based fieldwork.Organization: Oregon Department of Agriculture Native Plant Conservation Program
Location: Corvallis, Oregon
Position Type: Seasonal, Full-Time (Nine-Month Temporary Position)About UsODA’s mission is to protect and promote Oregon’s agriculture, natural resources, working lands, and communities. Through our Native Plant Conservation Program, we play a pivotal role in safeguarding the state’s diverse flora, including many threatened and endangered species. Join us and make a meaningful impact on Oregon’s natural heritage.Position OverviewThe Botanical Field Lead will work closely with program biologists to plan and implement conservation projects. You’ll lead field surveys, collect and analyze botanical data, and contribute to management decisions that directly impact the preservation of Oregon’s native plant populations. This role offers a unique opportunity to advance your career in plant conservation while engaging in hands-on work in some of Oregon’s most ecologically significant landscapes.Key Responsibilities-
Conservation and Research Implementation: Assist in planning and conducting plant conservation field operations, focusing on intensive seed collection efforts, seed cleaning, and rare plant monitoring to inform conservation strategies.

Field Leadership: Lead a 2-person field team in seed collection operations, surveying and monitoring plant populations, ensuring data accuracy, and adherence to research methodologies.

Data Management and Analysis: Collect, enter, and analyze data to produce reports that inform conservation strategies.

Collaboration and Outreach: Work with stakeholders, including private landowners, agencies, and volunteers, to achieve conservation goals.

Other Duties: Maintain detailed records, write field summaries, and support team efforts in fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
QualificationsRequired:-
A bachelor’s degree in Botany, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.

Experience in botanical fieldwork, including plant identification and data collection.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to work safely and effectively in remote field settings under variable conditions.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred:-
Familiarity with Oregon’s native plant species and ecosystems.

Experience leading field crews or volunteers.

Proficiency with data management tools and GPS technology.
Working Conditions-
Extensive outdoor fieldwork in various weather conditions, often in remote locations.

Hiking on uneven terrain and carrying equipment up to 40 lbs.

Overnight travel and camping for multiple days.
Employment Details-
Compensation: $3,951 – $5,736 per month, commensurate with experience.

Duration: Full-time, nine-month seasonal position. Anticipated start date between Feb. 24, 2025, and March 7, 2025.
