I am working in the SE US in a Piedmont savanna ecosystem/plant community. How often should I consider burning and at what time of year?
Growing season burns are generally recommended, BUT if you are concerned that you will disrupt the flowers and/or seeds/fruits of a rare plant, a dormant season burn might be more appropriate until you can determine the effects of growing season burns. This could mean creating experimental design (or imperical tests), that are designed to unambiguously get at your questions.
