A note from the CPC Board of Trustees Advocacy Committee:
On June 14, the House of Representatives passed the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (“RAWA”) with a bipartisan vote of 231-190. Many thanks to all of you who reached out to your Representatives. As always, your personal efforts made a real difference!
The next step is for the Senate to take up the bill, and a vote may come within days. We are confident that President Biden will sign the bill into law, which means that the passage of this critical legislation is just within reach! “RAWA” will provide $1.3 billion annually, to support wildlife conservation strategies in our states, territories and tribal lands. It will prioritize, “innovative recovery efforts for species of greatest conservation need–that is, those listed as endangered or threatened. This includes the native plants that grow in the habitats of these species; a provision that the CPC, GCA, SEPCA, and other organizations were instrumental in plant language drafting, and stewarding the bill as it made progress over the years.
If the bill does not come to a vote by August 6, Our Senators will be on recess and working in their home offices from August 6 until September 6. Please contact your Senator while they’re in their home offices. You may also call the Capitol switchboard in D.C. on (202) 224- 3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator’s office, where you’ll be able to speak to a member of their staff. Thank them for their support of Recovering America’s Wildlife Act. Encourage them to pass the senate bill S. 2372 by voting Yes.
