    HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION

    The Data Scientist has a strong background in data review, data management, data modeling, statistical analysis, and data visualization. The position will support the SDZWA conservation mission through the creation, integration, and management of database systems for a range of datasets including legacy data. The analyst will also develop automated data reporting and analysis pipelines, will carry out statistical data analysis and will create data summaries, data visualizations and reports. The successful candidate will work with scientists from different fields including biobanking, genomics, ecology, and social science to support their data management and analysis needs. The position is based in the SDZWA Conservation Technology Lab at the Beckman Center for Conservation Science in Escondido, CA, and will work collaboratively with CSWH leadership and across conservation science departments.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    Integration of existing databases in various formats.
    Development of new databases for storing scientific data.
    Data cleaning, standardization and import into databases.
    Maintenance of databases.
    Training scientific staff in the use of databases.
    Development of automated reporting pipelines and dashboards in R and Python.
    Statistical analysis and reporting of existing datasets.
    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

    JOB EXPERIENCE
    Two to three years’ experience with the design and management of relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite)
    Two to three years’ experience with the integration of diverse datasets
    Experience with software development is preferred
    Experience with managing data in a machine learning is preferred
    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
    BS or MS in Mathematics, Biology, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or related field required.
    PhD in Mathematics, Biology, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or related field.
    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
    Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets
    Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity with Java or C++ is an asset
    Adept at queries, report writing and presenting finds
    Familiarity with Zoological Information Management Software (ZIMS) strongly preferred
    Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse teams
    Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with competing deadlines using advanced organizational skills
    Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision

    Position Type: Full-Time Salary Exempt Position
    Salary Range: $94,800 – $104,820
